    Aims

During the workshop, participants will get an overview of regulatory frameworks by funders and best practices which are good to know when dealing with research data. The basic principles of Open Research Data and FAIR data, collecting, using and protecting research data and licensing will be covered and a particular emphasis will be on discussing questions arising from your own research. In the course of the workshop, participants will have the chance to discuss their questions with the university’s experts for data protection and research data management.

    Content

International and Swiss research funders are committed to promoting open science, so the publication of research data is becoming increasingly important in the Swiss research community.
To be able to share and publish data in a useful way, good data management must already be taking place during the research process. And in the case of sensitive research data, certain precautions must already be taken before data collection started, in order to protect the data.

This course will cover practical implications of research data management along the research life cycle and provides an overview of the regulatory frameworks. We will address organizing your data efficiently, sharing your research data, implementing or using published data in your research and protecting sensitive research material. We will talk about organizing, documenting and annotating your research data and taking care of data security.
With its focus on organization, management, sharing and publishing of data, the workshop is complementary to workshops on methodologies and tools for analysing data.
