Ziele
This workshop explores the landscape of Open Access publishing within the broader framework of Open Science. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the different Open Access models, the associated costs, and the potential benefits and challenges involved. The course also provides a space for participants to raise questions from their own academic experience and to engage in peer exchange with fellow doctoral researchers and postdoctoral scholars.
Kursinhalte
The workshop will cover the following topics:
· Scientific publishing and communication in the digital age
· The principles and recent developments of Open Access
· Pathways to Open Access publishing: from preprint servers to peer-reviewed journals and academic monographs
· Navigating career-related opportunities and obstacles in Open Access publishing
· Identifying and avoiding predatory journals
· Understanding publication costs and exploring funding opportunities
· Legal considerations in Open Access publishing
Form
The workshop combines expert input, interactive group discussions, and practical exercises. Prior to the session, participants will be invited to share their specific interests and questions to ensure a tailored learning experience.

Lucy Hindermann (University Library Basel)
Lucy Hindermann is an academic librarian at Open Science at the University Library of Basel with a main focus on Open Access and Open Publishing. She holds an M.A. in History and Geography of and a Master of Advanced Studies in Information and Library Science.
Fabian Felder (University Library Basel)
Fabian Felder is a team leader for the University Library’s archives subject librarian for Art and Architecture History. He holds a PhD in Art History and a Master of Advances Studies in Information and Library Science.

Besonderheiten
Once registration is open, applications will be collected for 24 hours and course places allocated by lot. All registrations received after the initial 24h period will be put on a waiting list and assigned on a first come, first served basis.
Course places/places on the waiting list will be confirmed by e-mail. Course registrations can only be canceled before the registration period ends (send an e-mail to grace@unibas.ch). Full course attendance is mandatory. Participants who fail to attend a course without prior notification or withdraw after the registration deadline are subject to a fee of CHF 30. In addition, participants who cancel their course registration at a later point in time, are absent without an excuse or do not attend the entire course will, for reasons of fairness, not be considered for course registration in the following semester and will be removed from other courses offered in the same semester.
