    Ziele

We aim for you to turn your talks into enjoyable experiences and for you to stand out with excellent presentation skills.
At the end of this training you will be able to:

    • craft a clear message
    • apply the principles of storytelling to scientific presentations
    • create effective slides
    • use slides productively during your talks
    • manage your stress before and during a presentation
    • project confidence and competence
    • reliably engage your audience

    Kursinhalte

Distilling complex ideas into simple images and messages is challenging. Yet it is crucial for all professionals to be able to present their work efficiently and when it comes to presenting research, being a good researcher is not enough. In order to make a point and convince an audience, one needs to be a good speaker. But how do you create inspiring talks? How do you engage and guide listeners rather than merely recite results and conclusions? How do you inspire trust while facing stress-induced self doubt? Our workshop will provide you with simple and actionable answers that will allow you to build confidence and competence, which will ultimately lead to better audience engagement.

Over the course of this workshop, we will take you on a journey exploring every aspect of a presentation, from planning to delivery. You will do that exploration with your own material, starting with a 5-min talk that you will give at the very beginning of the workshop. During the first day, we will work on refining the structure of your talk and as well as your slides. On the second day, we will work on your delivery, with the aim to project confidence and competence. The journey will end with the presentation of your revised 5-min talk.

We ask you to write a short report on your experience presenting on the second day. And we’ll send you articles to read before the start of the workshop.

    Form

This workshop is a combination of theory and practice, providing both the why and the how to structure and deliver an impactful scientific presentation. For each section (storytelling, slides, delivery) practical exercises allow you to learn hands-on to structure and deliver your own content. During the second day of the workshop, you will evaluate each other, learn to give feedback and thus acquire the ability to learn from observation.

    Material to bring:
    - a 5-min presentation about your work for your fellow students, using slides, and send these to the trainer Hedwig Ens (hedwig@samspeaksscience.com the weekend before the first day of the workshop the latest.
