Ziele
To learn to navigate academia in a healthy and sustainable way, by building effective thought and behavioural patterns to help us challenge common causes of stress, worry and self-doubt.
Kursinhalte
• To recognize the common challenges that we face in academia and to know we are not alone.
• To identify self-sabotaging thought processes that undermine our well-being and productivity, including imposter syndrome, worry, low motivation, and uncertainty.
• To identify behaviours that impede our success (e.g. procrastination and avoidance) and explore more effective (and healthier) short and long-term strategies.
• To learn to shift our mindset in order to create more mental clarity and mental energy to think, to create, to be present and to thrive.
Form
• Large and small group discussions and activities.
• Independent thought exercises and workbook activities.
• Using psychological tools such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness meditation and applying them to our everyday challenges.

Desiree Dickerson PhD is a clinical psychologist who specialises in the mental health and well-being of researchers and the academic community. A former researcher in the neurosciences, Desiree works globally with universities, lab groups, and academics in the pursuit of a healthier, sustainable approach to research.
Leistungsspektrum / Workload
Course attendance: 8h
Besonderheiten
Once registration is open, applications will be collected for 24 hours and course places allocated by lot. All registrations received after the initial 24h period will be put on a waiting list and assigned on a first come, first served basis.
Course places/places on the waiting list will be confirmed by e-mail. Course registrations can only be canceled before the registration period ends (send an e-mail to grace@unibas.ch). Full course attendance is mandatory. Participants who fail to attend a course without prior notification or withdraw after the registration deadline are subject to a fee of CHF 30. In addition, participants who cancel their course registration at a later point in time, are absent without an excuse or do not attend the entire course will, for reasons of fairness, not be considered for course registration in the following semester and will be removed from other courses offered in the same semester.
