Ziele
This workshop focuses on effective communication in academic and professional contexts. Participants will:
- Develop an understanding of different roles and tools for achieving clarity and mutual understanding in diverse contexts, like giving feedback or negotiating milestones. Thereby they will deepen their understanding of dialogue, feedback and negotiation as key elements of purposeful exchange.
- Practice communication strategies in different settings and with counterparts at various levels within the university.
- Develop practical skills in exercises designed to expand their personal communication “toolbox.”
Kursinhalte
Day 1 - Situations and settings for exchange
- Understanding messages in different situations
- Exploring the basics of dialog
- Analyzing participants’ own communication settings
- Theoretical background, incl. feedback and negotiation
Day 2 - Feedback and negotiation
- Testing feedback strategies
- Testing negotiation techniques
- Case studies and peer coaching
Day 3 - Reflection and practical takeaways

Informationen zu den Dozierenden
Dr. Ariane Schnepf has extensive experience in various positions at the University of Basel. She has held management positions at the university library and has trained and counseled doctoral and postdoctoral students for the past twenty years. Her education includes certificates in coaching and modern human resources development, as well as a master's degree in scientific library management. Her academic work focused on politics, language, semiotics, and understanding, which remain at the center of her professional goals.
Leistungsspektrum / Workload
Course attendance: 1 x 8h & 2x 4h
Pre-Course: Settings and exchanges: 1x 2h
Between courses (optional): peer coaching and testing exchanges, incl. presentation in the course: 2x 4h
Post-Course: Creating your Toolbox (optional): 1x 4h
Besonderheiten
Once registration is open, applications will be collected for 24 hours and course places allocated by lot. All registrations received after the initial 24h period will be put on a waiting list and assigned on a first come, first served basis.
Course places/places on the waiting list will be confirmed by e-mail. Course registrations can only be canceled before the registration period ends (send an e-mail to grace@unibas.ch). Full course attendance is mandatory. Participants who fail to attend a course without prior notification or withdraw after the registration deadline are subject to a fee of CHF 30. In addition, participants who cancel their course registration at a later point in time, are absent without an excuse or do not attend the entire course will, for reasons of fairness, not be considered for course registration in the following semester and will be removed from other courses offered in the same semester.
