    In this workshop, we focus on the writing process. Thus, we do not discuss issues related to text quality but talk about getting started, keeping momentum, and finishing in time. Participants test various techniques, become acquainted with software tools and develop strategies for productive scientific writing.

    Doctoral Candidates, regardless of disciplines


    This course prepares for the training “Articles in the Life Sciences and Natural Sciences: Structure and Clarity” on October 31, 2019.

    About the Trainer

    Dr. Philipp Mayer qualified in geoecology and obtained a PhD in the field of biodiversity research. He works as a freelance consultant and holds lectureships from the ETH Zurich and the Universities of Basel and Zurich. Dr. Mayer has held many writing courses and is the author of two books about scientific writing.


    Total 13 h->Preliminary work 2 h, lessons 8 h, follow up work 3 h.


    This course is in collaboration with the Advanced Studies and free of charge for doctoral candidates of the University of Basel. For this workshop unexcused absence and cancellation of the workshop after the registration deadline leads to a penalty fee of CHF 30.00.
    Registrations will be processed according on a “first come, first served” principle. The course registration will be confirmed by email. The registration to a course makes the participation in the full training mandatory. A course can be cancelled until the registration deadline (send an email to grace@unibas.ch).
