Aims
The participants
- are prepared for their time at the University of Basel and their doctorate
- have reflected on their role at the university and their academic and professional careers
- know instruments and tools and how to use them (e.g. doctoral agreement, intervision)
- are aware of possible challenges, know how to help themselves and are informed about contact points
- are motivated to find a good work-life balance and stay healthy
- have a plan for the doctoral phase and beyond.
Content
The participants
- discuss their own expectations and the expectations of their supervisors with other participants
- use instruments and tools to make the doctorate a success
- identify possible challenges with other participants and develop solutions
- do physical exercises
- structure and plan their doctorate and draw up a plan for their future career outside the University of Basel.

Workload
Four weeks before the start of the course, participants will receive an assignment that will take up to 4 hours to complete.
Between the two course days, there will be a time slot of 4 hours for group work (see date below; more information will follow in the course) and other assignments, which will take up to 10 hours.
100% attendance on the above dates plus preparation and assignments add up to a 30-hour workload, necessary for 1 ECTS credit.
Total of 30 hours (12h course attendance, 18h preparation and homework)

Second day: May 22, 9.15 am to 1 pm
Feature
Four weeks before the start of the course, participants will receive a task that will take up to 4 hours to prepare. There will be homework assignments and group work in-between the two course days.
Once registration is open, applications will be collected for 24 hours and course places allocated by lot. All registrations received after the initial 24h period will be put on a waiting list and assigned on a first come, first served basis.
Course places/places on the waiting list will be confirmed by e-mail. The registration to a course makes the participation in the full training mandatory. Course registrations can only be cancelled before the registration period ends (send an e-mail to grace@unibas.ch). Unexcused absence and cancellation of the workshop after the registration deadline leads to a penalty fee of CHF 30. In addition, participants who cancel their course registration at a later point in time, are absent without an excuse or do not attend the entire course will, for reasons of fairness, not be considered for course registration in the following semester and will be removed from other courses offered in the same semester.Please find the detailed regulations on the Transferable Skills Homepage.
