    Aims

    Successful job searching is about how to draw attention to yourself, your strengths and your achievements. Wisely choosing your personal goals and to be prepared to convince others of your competence is not a question of talent or luck. To position yourself successfully can be learnt, with intuition, endurance and system.
    Personal image and self-promotion are crucial elements in a successful carrier development. In this course, you learn how a clear cut profile, an attractive personal brand and clever self-marketing can help you become more visible and position yourself successfully in an academic, scientific as well as a business environment.

    Content

    The course offers marketing tools and self-reflecting techniques that will help you to:

    • learn why it is important to have a personal image and leave a strong impression – and how a strong profile can help you to realise your career vision.

    • get to know the 7 rules and 13 elements of an unbeatable personal image.

    • assess your resources, what has made you successful up to now and what strengths and accomplishments you can build your brand on.

    • develop your personal brand mantra based on your strength and favourite emotions.

    • take a personal career development outlook and define your goals.

    • learn how to do clever self-marketing using the Self Branding Model (SBM)®.

    • learn tactics and styles for successful job interviews.

    • learn how to use LinkedIn for networking and job opportunities.

    • develop strategies on how to establish a professional network, how to successfully utilize the network and get support and promotion out of it.

    Requirements

    The pre-work consists of introductory videos where you will learn the fundamentals of self-branding; a feedback exercise and a questionnaire. Participants are required to complete this preparation and are only admitted to the course if they have answered the questions.

    Workload

    30 hours (Preliminary work 4h, course attendance 2 x 8h, follow-up approx. 10 h)

    Feature

    Once registration is open, applications will be collected for 24 hours and course places allocated by lot. All registrations received after the initial 24h period will be put on a waiting list and assigned on a first come, first served basis.

    Course places/places on the waiting list will be confirmed by e-mail. Course registrations can only be canceled before the registration period ends (send an e-mail to grace@unibas.ch). Full course attendance is mandatory. Participants who fail to attend a course without prior notification or withdraw after the registration deadline are subject to a fee of CHF 30. In addition, participants who cancel their course registration at a later point in time, are absent without an excuse or do not attend the entire course will, for reasons of fairness, not be considered for course registration in the following semester and will be removed from other courses offered in the same semester.
