- Organized by

Transferable Skills Program
Publishing research articles in peer-reviewed journals is a demanding task. It is a task sometimes rewarding and sometimes frustrating. As publishing is a prerequisite for a career in science, it is important to approach the topic strategically.
The aims of this course are: (1) to understand steps in the publication process, (2) to realise interests of involved stakekolders (e.g. editors, publishing houses), (3) to know ethical standards, (4) to develop individual publishing strategies.
• the peer review system: stakeholders, processes, benefits, criticism
• criteria for journal selection (e.g. journal reputation, decision time)
• publishing in open access journals
• what editors want
• what reviewers do
• how to write a review report by yourself
• what to do in case of rejection
• ethical obligations
• copyright issues
Short lectures provide information and tips; extended exercises help to develop individual strategies. Participants gather and share experiences. They focus on their own publication projects and balance pros and cons of different target journals. In addition to the workshop, a coaching session is offered (45 minutes, more information on March 16).
