Aims
Intuitively, you probably know more about yourself and others than you are aware of. Being aware of your intuitions is likely to help you in taking good private and professional decisions. Taking good decisions will save you energy, get you where you want to be and boost your motivation. During your work at the university, you may need to make difficult life choices, decide for a career path or for modes of collegial interaction. Do you sometimes struggle with taking decisions or with finding the right mode of interaction? Would you like to change something, but you do not know how? Then this course is for you.
This online course aims to
• strengthen your intuition about yourself and others (Day 1 and 2)
• encourage you to take a step back and explore yourself: your personality, values, drivers, goals (Day 1)
• provide you with tools to help you with good decision-making (Day 2)
Content
DAY 1
1) Introduction: We test in how far we can get to know each other by using our intuition. We make use of the Zurich Resource Model (ZRM) of Storch (2004) and reflect on ‘the first impression’ by using the Johari Window-model (Luft and Ingham, 1961) (1/4 day)
2) Exploring personal qualities through story telling in teams (Mejer &Meijaard) (1/4)
3) Participants are guided to explore themselves by various means (2/4 day):
a. Personality: OCEAN model (Barrick & Mount, 1991)
b. Values/Goals: the ‘three worlds’- model (Schmid, 2006)
c. Drivers (Kahler, 1975 )
DAY 2
1) Looking at what we have learnt about ourselves on day 1, we develop a ‘motto’ or an image that helps us to carry our personal message of strength. The ZRM will serve as a supporting tool. (1/4 day)
2) We will use original African Tribal Art pieces to reflect on ‘identity’ and ‘reality constructs’ based on systems theory (observation, theory and discussion) (1/4)
3) We then learn about and apply several simple tools for understanding ourselves and others better including the ‘NLP-timeline’, the ‘Affect Balance’ and ‘microtheses’ (Berg and de Jong, 2013).
Optional Individual Coaching Session
Consecutive, individual (1:1) coaching session of 60 minutes, as an opportunity to discuss one personal challenge. By the time of the coaching session, participants are equipped with a high self-awareness, a ‘motto’ and tools for self-reflection, so the coaching session is expected to be highly effective in leading to a desired change.
Methods
The methods mentioned in the course contents are part of a solution-focused and systemic coaching approach. This course welcomes diversity and fosters self-empowerment and -respect.
Target Group
All Doctoral Candidates & Postdocs
About the Trainer
Dr. Mirja Michalscheck (Wageningen University & Research/ Lemon Tree Coaching)
Mirja is a certified systemic coach and change manager (INeKO). For her research, she explored decision-making dynamics in smallholder farming systems in Africa. Mirja now works as a Postdoc on Innovation scaling for the International Water Management Institute in Accra, Ghana. Mirja is fascinated by African Art, characterized by a multitude of tribal identities. An excursion into African Art and her work in Ghana will inspire the process of strengthening the participants’ own identities and interactionas.
Workload
