    Aims

    A successful academic career includes the acquired third-party funding as main applicant from funding organizations. The aim of the workshop is that participants know the most important key elements for planning and preparing their own research application after completing the doctorate.

    Content

    This 2-days workshop offers information from planning to submission of an application for own third-party funding

    Day 1:
    • STAY UPDATED: Information about important current developments and upcoming changes, Switzerland esp. SNSF & Europe and, impact on you
    • YOUR CHANCES: Overview SNSF/CAREER, offers University of Basel, overview private foundations
    • YOU MATTER: Detailed information about concrete career funding possibilities on your academic level and, most important roles
    • YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS: Plan & prepare a convincing grant proposal: 5-step model, key-elements, have a proper funding strategy, part 1
    • HOW-TO: The most important application documents, part 1
    • TAKE ALL: Tipps & Tricks, Do's and Don'ts

    Day 2:
    • YOU MATTER: Discussion & short individual feedback by the trainer towards the concrete application document worked out by each participant
    • YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS: concept & write a convincing grant proposal: the most important elements of a success-orientated project design connected to the assessment process
    • HOW-TO: The most important application documents, part 2
    • TAKE ALL: Tipps & Tricks, Do's and Don'ts
    • TEAM-WORK: Creativity is all you need
    • WRAP-UP of workshop

    Methods

    • This workshop will be run online (headphones and room without disturbances: obligatory)
    • Theory, practical & interactive exercises
    • Lot of time for Q&A

    Target Group

    Advanced Doctoral Candidates and MD PhD Candidates (last year) & All Postdocs and MDs

    Requirements

    • Preparatory work onto Day 1, intermediate practical exercise onto Day 2 and after the workshop (within indicated time period) is obligatory for participation and ECTS credit resp.
    • The information for the preparation work will be communicated by the trainer.

    About the Trainer

    Susanne Matuschek, MATUSCHEK CONSULTING: 20 years expert on research funding and career development in academia. Hereof e.g., more than 8 years as head of two funding schemes in the Career Division of the Swiss National Science Foundation. Cair of European working groups on "Research Careers in Europe". Since 2010 Susanne Matuschek leads her own company MATUSCHEK CONSULTING in that field offering Workshops, Webinars & individual Coaching.

    Workload

    Total of 30h (course attendance 13h, preparation before workshop day 1 8h, homework between workshop day 1 and 2 9h)

    Feature

    Once registration is open, applications will be collected for 24 hours and course places allocated by lot. All registrations received after the initial 24h period will be put on a waiting list and assigned on a first come, first served basis.

    Course places/places on the waiting list will be confirmed by e-mail. Course registrations can only be canceled before the registration period ends (send an e-mail to grace@unibas.ch). Full course attendance is mandatory. Participants who fail to attend a course without prior notification or withdraw after the registration deadline are subject to a fee of CHF 30. In addition, participants who cancel their course registration at a later point in time, are absent without an excuse or do not attend the entire course will, for reasons of fairness, not be considered for course registration in the following semester and will be removed from other courses offered in the same semester.
